Host nation shines in duel against Czech Republic

The men's team of the host nation Austria faced the Czech Republic in their first duel on the second day of play. The first match featured the second seeded teams of each nation. On Austria's side, 28-year-old Martin Ermacora and his 26-year-old partner Moritz Pristauz started the match. On the court of the Red Bull Beach Arena, they were awaited by 25-year-old Vaclav Bercik and Donovan Dzavoronok from the Czech Republic, also 25 years old.

The Czech team started the match better and was leading for a long time. The Austrians played uncleanly in some moments and showed themselves prone to mistakes. With the support of the fans, the Austrians fought their way back to the Czech Republic point by point. In the end, however, the Czech duo was the better one and won the first set narrowly 22:20.

Also in the second set the team Bercik/Dzavoronok took the lead. However, the Austrians showed fighting spirit and the lead changed. Ermacora/Pristauz were pushed on point by point by the spectators and won the second set with a lead of seven points (21:14). The third set was similar as well. It was a neck-and-neck race. The Austrians were able to secure the third set 15:13 and thus won match one 2:1 against the Czech Republic.

The second match now pitted the top seeded teams of the two nations against each other. For the host nation Austria, 32-year-old Robin Valentin Seidl and his 26-year-old playing partner Philipp Waller, who have been part of the Austrian beach volleyball elite for years, stood on the court of the packed arena. Their Czech opponents were 19-year-old Tomas Semerad and 20-year-old Jakub Sepka. Both nations showed their high skills already in the first set. Austria managed to take the lead and was able to grab one point after the other against the Czech Republic. The young duo from the Czech Republic showed fighting spirit and tried everything. However, Seidl/Waller hardly let their opponents score any points and won in front of the numerous home crowd with a lead of nine points (21:12). Also in the second set the Austrian elite duo proved their skills and showed an almost flawless game. Seidl/Waller also secured the second set with 21:12 and decided the second match 2:0 against the Czech Republic.

The Nations Score of the Austrian men's team is therefore 2:0.
