Hammarberg/Berger back on track

13.05.2024 - Graz

The young duo put up a good fight at the Graz Open and won their first gold medal of the season. Wildcards Handler-Hollaus/Burbulla showed their skills in the women's tournament.

Timo Hammarberg and Tim Berger took home gold after their first tournament together in the 2024 season. Hammarberg recently fought his way to second place in Neusiedl with Jakob Reiter - but triumphed again at the Graz Open with Berger, with whom he has formed a successful duo since 2021. In Graz, the pair won the final in two sets against the wildcard duo Erl/Kratz (21-14, 21-15). The interim duo Waller/Pascariuc also had to concede defeat to them in the quarter-finals after two sets (21-17, 27-25). The bronze medal went to the Köstler twins after three sets against Antoni/Trauth (21-19, 21-23, 15-10).

Hammarberg/Berger have already proven themselves several times in the past year alone. For example, they won silver at the U21 World Championships, triumphed at the Mallorca Futures and claimed the bronze medal at the Austrian National Championships. In Graz, they once again demonstrated that a bright future awaits them on the sand. Next up for the pair is the Futures Tournament in Cervia, where they will be the only Austrian duo competing.

The women's gold medal went to the Austrian-German duo Handler-Hollaus/Burbulla. In the final, they faced Elsner/Pfau for the second time during this tournament. Despite being defeated by them in the group stage after three rounds, they managed to turn the tables in the fight for gold. After two contentious sets, they proved superior to Elsner/Pfau in the tiebreaker, securing the victory with three consecutive points (21-14, 12-21, 15-12). Haas/Kastenberger were also able to claim the bronze medal after three sets against Neiss/Mayr (20-22, 21-19, 15-13).
