Brazilians triumph on home turf Brasília

06.05.2024 - Brasília

At the Brasília Elite16, top duos Evandro/Arthur and Ana Patrícia/Duda got the home crowd going wild. Böbner/Vergé-Dépré, Z. also remain strong contenders in the race to Paris.

Ana Patrícia/Duda made sure to stay on top of the world and keep Nuss/Kloth in second place, beating the Americans in straight sets (21-17, 21-14). With Elite16 events won in Uberlândia in 2022 and João Pessoa last season, they also celebrated their third home title on the Beach Pro Tour. As they are well positioned in the Olympic rankings, the anticipation of how they will perform at the A1 Beach Pro Vienna 2024 is growing!

In the bronze medal match, Böbner/Vergé-Dépré beat Z. Stam/Schoon 2-1 (21-15, 13-21, 15-9). The Swiss duo are currently in a neck-and-neck race with compatriots Vergé-Dépré/Mäder and have already collected valuable points on their way to Paris. The battle for a spot promises to be particularly exciting for sisters Anouk and Zoé Vergé-Dépré; for Anouk, Paris would be her third participation after finishing ninth at the 2016 Olympics and even winning the bronze medal with Joana Mäder in 2021. For Zoé and partner Esmée Böbner, it would be their first participation in the Summer Olympics.

In the men’s final, Evandro/Arthur beat the Dutch van de Velde/Immers 2-1 (17-21, 23-21, 15-9). This isn’t the only success for the team however, as the Brazilian Volleyball Federation just confirmed them as one of the teams that will represent Brazil in the summer Olympics should they have two spots on the men’s side. George/Andre are the only other Brazilian men’s duo currently ahead of them in the world ranking. For Evandro, a spot in Paris would be his third appearance at the Olympic Games whereas it would be a first for Arthur. Another home duo made it onto the podium in Brasília with George/Andre. They beat the German duo Ehlers/Wickler in three sets (17-21, 21-17, 15-12) to take home the bronze medal.
